Proprioception for thumb basal joint osteoarthritis: an evidence-based practical approach

Course Content:

Thumb basal joint osteoarthritis is a very common condition that causes pain and disability. The proprioceptive approach to the thumb has garnered significant interest among hand therapists in recent years. This course aims to evaluate the scientific evidence concerning the efficacy of conservative treatments for thumb osteoarthritis. Moreover, it will specifically define and assess proprioception exercises designed to enhance functionality and mitigate pain intensity in thumb osteoarthritis.

Accredited Hand Therapist for Spanish Association of hand therapy and CHT for the EFSHT. More than 24 years experience in evaluation, treatment and splinting of upper limb injuries and conditions affecting the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. Founder and past-president of the Spanish Association for Hand Therapy . Member of the IFSHT Scientific cCommittee for 2016 and 2019 International Congress. Member of the IFSHT Social Media Ad Hoc Committee and member of Educational Committee of IFSHT (2019-2022). Main investigator of the IBIMA group HandResearchGroup. Invited speaker at numerous international congresses on hand therapy and author of more than 30 JCR publications in impact journals with clinical results applicable to hand therapy, both interventions from a conservative and post-surgical point of view.
